No hay, tons of hoppers and buying water

These past two years have not been kind to my small ranch outside of Steamboat Springs. The lack of moisture led to a small hay harvest in 2020 and this year the grass is so stunted that it's not even worth cutting. To make matters worse my well, which is actually an infiltration gallery, is so low that I've resorted to paying to haul water for the household.

Then there's the grasshoppers. I'm talking hundreds of thousands and they're eating everything in their path, even evergreen trees.
